John McNabb (d.1802) was the founder of Dollar Academy in Clackmannshire, Scotland.  He bequeathing money to its foundation in his will. Sources describe him as a 'slave-trader'. https://www.ucl.ac.uk/lbs/person/view/2146634586

With these abhorrent originating funds Dollar Academy opened its doors and began taking children in 1818.

In 2002 investigations began into a pedophilic teacher and Boarding House Master who was employed by Dollar Academy, his name was Dr Johnathan Quick. 

The investigation was prompted by the suicide of then 23-year-old David Young.  David had been pedofiled by Quick when he was a pupil of Dollar Academy.

David was not the only pupil of Dollar Academy to be pedofiled by Quick. Investigations found that Quick, the then retired Latin and sports teacher employed by Dollar Academy, had abused three boys and a girl and had assaulted a fourth boy in the late 1970s and early 80s.

The Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry (SCAI or Inquiry) was established in October 2015 to inquire into cases of abuse of children in care in Scotland.  Scottish Boarding Schools are part of the Terms of Reference.

Former pupils of Dollar Academy, who had been abused in its 'care' have begun to come forward to the Inquiry.  These former pupils have formed Dollar Academy Survivors, a peer to peer support organisation.
